cb install 85 pickup

ok here is how i installed my radioshack trc 503 ( not the best radio, but it was the only one small enough to fit). my antennas are in the mail now and i will update when i get them installed.

the first picutre is what the dash looked like before i got my cb in and before i got my stereo installed.

the second picture is the trc 503, its alot lot smaller in person, and in the third pictuture show the tray underneath the radio where i wanted to put the cb. i had to do some cutting to get it to fit

i cut the tray out with an air grinder so it was almost hollow that way i could slide the cb in and acces the the male plug for the co-axial cable and run my wire to the fuse box.

and here it is all finished, i think it fits pretty nice in there and im able to slide an external speaker behind the radio hidden(wich i havnt done yet) and all the wires are pretty much hidden.

lol sorry about all the thumbnails and how horrible the picture quility is, the are by far the worst picutre i have ever taken. my antennas are gonna be dual firestik 4ft. mounted on the bed behind the cab, very similar to 1981 yota (lol i stole his idea )

I installed a cb in an 84 4Runner a few years ago, and i mounted it the same way you did yours, and it worked good that way.

i have that same cobra, but had trouble fitting it in to the ashtray like that, that was my original plan, did you have to trim to get the radi to fit in there?

forgot to show a pic, but i mounted my mic bracket kinda behind the steering wheel, there was a "blank panel" there with an unhooked push starter, so i just unscrewed one of the screws and then screwed in my mic hanger

Way to go, 85! Glad you found a nice fit for it, and looking pretty professional/uniform!

Hey man, it's a good feeling to have something snug up well like that, especially if you've had other problems/issues with a rig recently. Not a bad idea to have a Radio back in the sticks of NJ! lol. Especially if that lil J. Devil runs up on ya when yer 'backwoods a bit', eh? hahaha.

Happy for ya,

Mark

I'm running a Uniden Bearcat PC68XL so I had to remove the whole tray, but it works out great.
