Carb Rebuild question

I am planning to rebuild my carburetor, but it does not have the ID tag that is supposed to help me get the specific kit sold at NAPA. Does anyone have any ideas on how else I can figure out what is the right kit?

Also any good, picture by picture go-by's for both rebuilding and tuning the carb? Thank you very much!!!

Truck details 85 (could be an 86 engine rebuild/junkyard replacement according to the prior owner) toyota pickup 22R engine

Since your in California: my 1987 22R is a California truck and my carburetor number is 35430. The two main differences that I know of between the different years and different states are that the earlier carbs had a round connector plug where the different electrical components on the carb plug into the wiring harness. The later models, like mine, come with a square connector plug. And that the California carbs came with a larger main jet. They came that way because, I surmise, that the California carburetors are a feedback carb. The feedback carburetor can add extra air into the fuel mixture.

There is a post on Yotatech either in this forum (f115 in the address bar) or forum f116 (86-95 trucks). But I'm pretty sure it's in this one. If you search for "rebuild carburetor" or something like that, you'll find it.

Oh, I forgot to add, rebuilding the internals of carburetor is easy. The hard part is the various linkages attached to the carburetor. Take a lot of pictures before and during disassembly.

So apparently this truck needs a lot more to get it to pass smog than I thought... Also from the sounds of it there could be many other issues with the carb accessories like the solenoids and what not that is going to run me more than a new webber. Been advised to just throw on a used webber and green sticker it since it will never pass smog (within a reasonable budget that is)

Sigh... I'm never going to sell this thing...

Have you already gotten a smog check? If so what emission(s) is not passing? Post up your numbers.

If worst comes to worst, depending on where you live, you could sell it to someone in Nevada or Oregon where those states have less stringent smog requirements.

No I haven't, it wont pass visual inspection the way it is. Also apparently the fuel cut off solenoid might not be working...

I wouldn't mind selling it to someone in another state. But how many people are willing to buy from so far away?

Check eBay for the solenoids.
