The way the clips hold the trim to the cab, there is no way of removing the clips with out breaking them. The trim slides up on the clips, but there is not enough room for the trim to slide up before hitting the drip rails to clear the clips. Replacement clips from Toyota are not to bad of a price from them. I have not found clips on Ebay or Amazon.

Copied....
Just so I will have the numbers at a future time. It take 2 clips PN# 62955-89101 for the top and middle of the side trim. 1 clip at the bottom of the trim PN#62955-91C01. They look similar but are not interchangable. No way of getting them out without breaking them. They have to be replaced. My auto body store sells clips so I have a few spares to see if they have something similar and will post them up if I find something at a later time.

I put a dab of super glue to help hold the rubber strips on. Not needed but it is such a small amount and it keeps them from sliding down and easier to install. There is a little lip that sticks out. Pay attention to how you remove the rubber strip to install it right.

The first picture is hard to see, but the clip has a "V" style build to it. I do not see any way of getting to it to squeeze it closed to release it.

I take a flat blade screwdriver/trim removal under or near the clip and twist it to break the clip to remove the trim. Just no way of removing them that I know of. If there is I am eager to learn it as well. I have seen others mention no way of saving them as well.

I guess they never intended on us trying to remove them. Pretty much talked me out of it!

Thanks, Terry, for the part numbers.

Guys,
Yeah, I hate those hidden fasteners!!!!
I had to break my upper ones, too (I have different cover trim because it's a 4Runner).

I was able to slide bottom edge of trim forward to free it from the bottom clip, so bottom clips are reusable. Top ones are pretty much gone.

I notice rubber flaps on Terry's are gone. Mine were, too. I restored using flat rubber sheet, about 1/32 inch thick.
You could use used bicycle inner tube material, like 4Crawler did. I recommend mountain bike inner tubes; they're wider and flatter than road bike inner tubes.

Square white thingies on mine are expansion nuts. I'm considering screwing the cover back on using those & screws, because I hate hidden fasteners.

Hi Terry,
Did you get your retainer clips from dealer or online?
How much per clip?
I'm having a hard time getting info from online stores. They send scans of their parts manual that are not clear.
TIA,
Ray

I get mine at the dealer. If I recall right they are about $1.50 to $2 or so a piece. I bought two complete sets and seems like the bill was $18.

Hi guys. I just wanted to thank all that posted on this post, for the info as I pulled the B pillar covers to repaint the L-shape covers on the quarter glass on my 85 4 runner. Bought new clips from Toyota D-ship and reused the lower clip and everything went together smooth as butter. Thanks again. By the way the clips were 3.25 ea.
