Back Window won't close in my 4runner!

Thanks for those who are responding and trying to solve my problem.
My back window in my 4runner won't close when I turn the key to my left. Fortunately, the inside panel in the console works, I been able to use the up bottom to make the window to close.

If you have any suggestions on how to solve and fix my broken problem please reply.

Thanks.com

I just replaced the gate and window on my 85, I may be way off base here, but the one I bought I was told did not work with the key switch in the gate, only from an interior switch...While installing the set-up I noticed that the harness that goes to the key switch runs from the motor,UNDER the window and up to the key. After years of use and rubbing against the bottom of the window and the carriage, the wires had rubbed through enough to completely break one...I imagine this was the cause, so on my old gate (gutted except for the wires) I investigated, and the same "wire rub" was present...check it out and see could be that simple...

Hope this helps

Doug

Look on 4crawler.com for his tech info on the many "fixes" for the rear window and rear wiper issues. As stated above, the wires are prone to rubbing and breaking over time.

I had the same problem. There was a broken wire where they are exposed under the tailgate. Good luck finding the broken wire...

mine was the same on the 89. plug was actually rubbing the glass & somehow it started to work it's way loose or apart. It looked like there was a plastic push-in style clip that used to hold it to the sheetmetal, but it broke so i just ziptied it up & no mo problem-o.

Yea, I had the same problem with my Runner too, that's why if you ever look at any older 4runner and pay attention to the rear glass they all have rub marks on them kindof in the middle but a little off to the right side. So yea, I would investagate the whole broken wire thing. GOOD LUCK

Have you tried pressing on the upper left side of the tailgate while turning the key? There is a detection switch on that side that, as the latches get worn down, won't push the plunger sufficeintly up to make it detect that the tailgate is fully closed.
If you pull it apart you will see that the latch is shaped like the lobe of a cam. As it wears down it doesn't have enough lift to it anymore.
A new latch assembly would be one possible solution. Mine was to farmer it a tad by taking a tiny screw and inserting it into the end of the door closed detection switch plunger. By adjusting it I could make up for the slack in the old latches. Worked like a charm for me. ***Warning*** if you decide to pull the switch apart to clean it (it will be a funky ugly mess) there is a tiny roller pin inside it that will want to fall out and disappear so you may be better off to leave well enough alone unless you feel certain in your ability to pull it apart, clean it, and get it back together again.
This is, of course, predicated on the assumption that pressing on the tailgate suddenly brings it back to life. On mine, it was oddly intermittent about whether the interior or tailgate switch would work, but I haven't had a single problem since this fix. Hope you find your problem!
Just an opinion.
