Anyone put a removable tailgate on their 4Runner

I have an 85 4Runner and was wondering if anyone has put a removable tailgate on theirs. If so, do you have pictures? Im picturing it being like that of a pick-up truck removable tailgate.

Has been done, although I don't have pictures. Usually done in conjunction with a bed bob, folks will cut off the back end of the 4Runner bed then graft on the back end of a pickup bed to get the tailgate attachment points. For a bob, they take out 6-9" of bed length typically, but the swap could be done with the stock bed length as well.

It's easily done with a couple parts.

1. Donor Tailgate from an 84-88 pickup
2. All the mounting points for the tailgate including the latch brackets and supports
3. fabricated bracket to accept the tailgate hinges

Why don't you just gut a 4Runner tailgate and weld sheet metal over the top (where the power window would come out)?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will just have to weld tailgate brackets on the cab and 4runner tailgate. I still want the tailgate to be 100 operational, ie: back window, I just want it to be rempvable as well.

Going to have to come up with some sort of wiring disconnect as well.
