88 4runner 22re Stalling

I have a 1988 4runner. I was having problems with the fuel pump and it turned out to be a bad ground wire. Fixed that, but while doing so we cut the fuel line by accident. This is the line coming from the fuel pump with the fittings on it. We wound up putting a rubber hose in its place and it seemed to fix the problem. A few days later it began to kind of hesitate while in second gear. I continued driving and this is what I am experiencing:

It starts up fine. I get and drive and take it to highway speeds for a while and it will die after idling for a bit. Then it wont start back up until you let it sit a while. The first time this happened my friend was pushing me out of the intersection and I popped the clutch in second gear and it started right up. The next night popping the clutch did not work so I let it sit for 5min and then got it to start, but I had to baby the throttle until I got enough rpm to get up and go. Acted like it was going to stall as I would give it throttle. then I would back off, let it idle again, and then ease into it. After I got the rpms up it ran highway speed all the way home. Did not experience the problem again driving through the neighborhood. I have started the truck several times since then, but dont trust it to drive to work. Any ideas?

No on the fuel filter. I had just read through some of the forums and i thought about that. I will try that next. I will take a pick of the fuel line and post it.

Hard to tell by the pic but it looks like the metal line has a kink in it. I'd still change out the filter and see what that does.

Okay, I finally got a chance to change. The fuel filter today. I drove it, hard up and down yhe highway and not one hiccup. So for now it looks like the filter was the problem. Thanks for the advise.

Well....today I drove the truck towork and back. Was fine to, but comming home it wanted to stall again. I drove it for about 8 miles at about 65mph. When pushed the clutch in and staryed to.slow for a turn I notice almost like a whistling sound or a verry high pitch hum. As I came out of the turn and gave it gas it started hiccuping again and lost power. I put it into second and reved the engine and it started driving normal again and no more whistle. Its pretty subtle sound. Didnt have any other issues all the way home. When it hiccups I mean it almost sounds like it wants to backfire. Man Im lost.
