85 pickup brakes

My 85 has a sticky pedal. When I press is it down it hits a hard spot and that makes a loud noise and falls to the floor almost. It still stops and everything but its kinds scary sometimes. and the pedal is really hard. I was thinking it could be the master cylinder or the brake booters or also the wheel cylinder in teh rear drums. Is their a mod like putting a FZJ 80 master cylinder in it to help stop the truck or is their fabrication to doing that. What could the problem be and whats the best fix for my money?

It sounds like a master cylinder to me.... But that's really odd.

Is it really hard to push, or does it just fall to the floor?

Anyways. You don't need an FJ master, you just need a master out of a IFS Yota. They have a 1 inch bore instead of a 3/4 inch bore. You can also run the IFS calipers and rotors. The calipers have 2 large pistons compared to the 85's 1 small 1 large pistons.

Cheap and easy ways to stop a little bit better.

Do I have to have the IFS capliers and rotors to use the IFS master cylinder or can I just do the IFS master cylinder? And is their any mods I have to do to make the IFS master cylinder work? Thanks

Nope everything bolts right up. I'll bet if you go to your local parts store and just turn in your old one as a core they won't even notice .

The pedal going hard could be a bad booster. If you are hitting the bone yard, get them together.

I have 94 booster and MC in my Cruiser

If you do the IFS caliper swap, you also need to change the rotors to FJ60 (vented rotors)

I have a duel diaphragm brake booster and master cylinder from an 89 two wheel drive toyota truck on my 85 toyota 4x4 truck, and they made a noticable improvement in braking. one of my next upgrades will be to add vented rotors and V6 calipers.
