My idle was rough since I got my 4runner. It also burned a lot of oil, but wasn't smoking.

Recently I started loosing a lot of coolant, no puddles and the exhaust didn't appear to be smoking either. I picked up a used head for $50 and dropped another $150 at the machine shop. Needed to be cleaned, decked, and some valve work.

Swapped the new head in on Saturday, and the truck runs better then it ever has before. Idles very smooth, I think my valves were worn out on the old head and causing a lot of my problems.

Hello Tyler, I just got back from Afghanistan 3 weeks ago with the Missouri Guard and am having a high idle problem and was searching for causes and came across your thread. Glad to see you made it back. While I was over there I did get the chance to order some parts and things and now trying to get them all on.

haha yeah we are getting ready already to go there in '12! and yes just like everyone say, double and triple check things. Go to your manual if you have one, they are very helpful.

Good news man. Isn't it wierd that a few simple air bubles can do that to a truck. So all the issues are fixed and you're wheelin now??

I do have a couple questions though: or well tips from yall or something!

1. Door panels? any cheap ideas? Don't say junk yard either, around here (arkansas) humidity the the DEVIL, and most windows are busted out and mildew or rot has set in horribly!

2. Aussie locker? I need a cheap and good one for the rear and want to stay away from the lock-rite, my buddy is on the third one of his, and i hear the Spartans are good?

3. anything else? just look at my signature and tell me if I should add or what ever.

Door panels?.... Maybe go to Automix.com or one of those nationwide used parts sites... Register on them and then post wanted ads, with stipulations like "Must be willing to ship if I paypal it".... etc. I"D BET you could find some in CA or AZ that are nice and SPOTLESS!

Lockers? YotaRob has a Spartan...he seems very happy with it. Just keep researching and maybe ask someone like "ZUK", who does gearing and such for a living. He will give you an honest answer, too, ...wont try to sell you something, ya know?(Not that ANY of the vendors on here would...just saying what I know from experience about Zuk).

Just an option.....some likey, some no likey, lol...

Far as adding things, you'll have to decide if you think they're worth the money, but you can do things like Cold Air Intake set up.... I know some don't like em, and I was skeptical before my rings seated(it was REALLY hot in there under the hood, lol)... .but I KNOW that it's adding performance... i can feel it, clearly, on the straightaways and in acceleration. Furthermore, you have the same header as me. So, it makes sense to let a lil more air in for the 'lil more air' going out, to some.....but again, many don't agree.

You can also look into a Supra AFM swap... I've thought about it....researching it right now. But, I'm first trying to decide if I wanna do a Battery/AFM swap....THEN, I'll work on the rest, if I do.

You could look into Gearing, considering you have 33's....again, some wont agree and will tell you "I run 33's and my stock 4:10's all day long! NO need!".... But IT WILL improve the gear ratio for those tire size and improve mileage and "get up the hills" skills, lol.

Best wishes on your hunt for 'fun mods' to do!

Mark
