Gotcha, ...thanks.

I still find it odd that they're collapsing....I'll be watching. Best wishes on the new hoses.

got them on my lunch break from oreillys, just have to cut them and place them!

but a note on the collapsing issue, it was only REALLY bad when the motor was warm or hot! It heated up that silicone enough to make it VERY flexible so that high suction from the intake was more then it could handle, and it would collapse and then along with the suction it would nearly close, left just enough of an opening to keep it at a ROUGH idle.

I hear ya.....Yeah, that makes more sense, and sorry, you mentioned the heat being a major issue.... Again, makes sense, as the PCV does NOT breath like a wide open straw...so seeing it provides a lil resistance, that might cause it to collapse when it gets hot and has not enough free flowing air.

Hope that solves your issue, Tyler, ...keep us posted.

PS> So I don't have to read back......Is it a newer motor or build? Just wondering, because mine seemed to be quite a bit hotter in the head and under the hood in general, when it was still seating in the rings, seats, etc.

ya i was wrong about the egr, its bvsv.. but its normally closed unless the vacuum routing was wrong.. idk maybe im being too critical, but we know it wasnt his valve train, this happened RIGHT AFTER he did the vacuum line job. lol i see what you mean dude, the vacuum lines you used were made of softer material than normal pcv line, so when vacuum was present the line was pinching itself off, lol did you try for the red pcv line look lol? oh well cant beat OEM.

On the pcv note, pcv is positive crankcase ventilation, its an emission control. Any blow by gases that get passed the pistons during combustion are sent into the crankcase and are vented into the intake by the pcv valve to be reburned. they open by vacuum and close vacuum drops to prevent drawing in oil..

well here is the story on the vehicle:

I purchased the vehicle in 2002 as a Junior in high school, with 114,000 original miles and this thing sounded sweet! only paid $2800 for it and everything ran great on it, just did a tune up and it was good to go. During my first deployment to Iraq in late 2003 -2005, I purchased a 2000 F150 and gave the 4runner to my dad for paying the sales tax and a few other things on the new vehicle (dumbA#$ mistake), and then a year later my little brother bought it from my dad, (my dad at the time has the '85 4runner, '87 & '88 4runners? why I dont know), upon having the 4runner for only about 6,000 miles my little brother failed to wash out under the hood and caked up the alternator with mud and something else, i forget, and threw a rod, he paid $1300 for a guy that lives near by to spend the next 6 months to rebuild the motor (the guy work full-time as a toyota tech at a dealership, for the past 17 years), it was rebuilt and my dad acquired it back from my brother.
Upon returning from my second deploment at the end of 2008 from Iraq I bought It back from him and started all of the mods and fixes and such. So I would say that the motor only has MAYBE 8,000 - 10,000 miles on it since it was rebuilt.

Oh trust me, Shaine.... last thing I'd want is for it to be, in fact, a Valve Train issue, haha. And, also trust me when I say that I'm not a smart arse in any way... I wasn't trying to dis ANYTHING you'd said. Just that, well, doing a compression test is so easy.... and it's free, with a CARD for deposit... so why not just make sure, ya know?

Far as the PCV.... I got one from O'reily, brand new(it was an emergency, don't stone me! hahaha)... and it was faulty from the factory. Put in an OEM from Toyota for 7$.....solved. Wasn't worth the 3$ savings to have to diagnose why my breather hose was popping off. Also, I did almost all OEM vacuum, too.(I get a great discount)... Not the smaller ones, but all the larger ones(IACV, PCV, Breather, Steering)....they're tapered and larger on one side than other in some cases, and formed to fit the angles,...and well, I figured, "if they lasted over 20 years, they must be pretty good quality"... When I got the new ones, I could tell why they cost a lil more...WAY better quality than some parts store vacuum lines. I did use O'reily lines for the smaller vacuum hoses..they're really strong, actually.

Hey Tyler, ....THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE! Sorry to hear about the drama with the rig while deployed, lol.... dang! Well, at least it's fresh and RET-2-GO!

Looking forward to seeing if it's just the softness of the hoses... could make an interesting side thread, eh? And, well, I guess that answers me as to whether it's fully broken in....IT IS, lol.

Not sure if a Hooah! or OORAHHH! is in order, but either way, ....seriously, Thank you, and glad you're home safe!

Mark

Sorry, not helpful YET in this section.... I'm about to install 2- 8" Dick Cepek Halogens and I'll be putting in a full relay kit, etc., from Pep Boys(they actually have a good one from KC for around 20$ with all the wires, etc, and full instructions on where to boot in.). Of course, I'll have to also possibly upgrade my Alternator, because I'm going to most likely be doing a dual battery/multi-outlet inverter Mod as well. I think you can run it right off the battery and then through a relay for each light/ with auto-shut off(for when it's draining the battery past acceptable levels type thingamadoer, lol).

I think KC has a section on their site with full tutorials and instructions for 'Proper Installation'... and I can see you have a HO Alternator and Optima...so you should be ok with the proper relays, etc. What size lights are they?

How'd you fix the lights, Tyler? Very cool to hear, you'll need em when you head out to hunt maybe, eh? lol

Sorry to hear on the PCV hose... I'll be watching to see if that solves it.

Have a nice dinner and even better Hunting Trip!

yah i hope so, its bow season right now, and I got the right nose now to see if it works! and the lights had gotten a short in the supply wire because my dumbass ran it above the parking brake lever and it rubbed it raw! Got it fixed and grounded it better also while I was in there!

Well, sometimes, when draining something around mid-level of the engine, or just draining to a point that you get that far down..... AIR BUBBLES can wreak havoc on things. I'm not sure that's the cause, but it's possible.

Sorry, really quick....what did you do to the rig since your last post?

PS> GREAT TO HEAR that, so far, your problem seems to be getting solved!

Alrighty, sorry about the delay, apparently i had two accounts and was banned, Corey hooked me up though.

ChefYota4x4: i have not had any other problems yet from it, took it two hours away to the deer camp and drove the PISS out of it! seemed to be running good, think I need to go in a fine tune the valves again. And I took the Plugs out and regapped them cause they were a little worn and such, seemed to help a little. As far as the idle i am just unsure! lol
