I inherited my Fathers truck when he past this last summer. It is a one owner 277k with 50K on rebuild, 4 spd 2wd. I picked it out for him before I went out into the world. Anyway, the idiot who rebuilt that engine for him did not torque the flywheel bolts and no loktite. I think there were 4 bolts holding the trans on. It had a shudder that quickly turned in to a "zing" going down the hwy. It sheared 4 of the 6 bolts and 2 backed out completely leaving me stranded. I got all of them out and put new ones in with blue loktite, but the flywheel had been loose so long (Pop drove 45 miles per hour everywhere) that it had wallowed the holes and it snapped 3 of my bolts off and the others came loose. HELP!!! This is not a great truck by any means, it does carry a lot of sentimental value. What do you suggest, other than a new flywheel as I did go get one of those. I am trying to decide between going up to the next metric size, red loktite, or helicoil. I am converting it to a 5 speed and 15" alloys. I would like this as my daily driver.

I have seen a few cranks with the bolts holes for the flywheel messed up. That is a very high load area, I know of no successful fix for that, and I have tried a few times. I think it could be done with the right equipment to index the holes, it would need to be all of them of course.

I think I would go find a different crank."

This sucks, but oh well..
