Question 84 4runner good starter vehicle or not?????

Hi and thanks for the help!!!

I'm looking at a 1984 4runner and want to get some feed back on how they do on the trail??? and are they pretty easy to lift??? Are they a good reliable vehicle that you can use on the trail and for daily driving??? It has the solid axles and 22r motor that was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago... but if you could help me that would be great. Manly want to know are they a good vehicle to start with if i'm going to build a bad ass trail beast???

Thank Jake
happy wheelin

yes this is a great platform to start with. they are easy to lift. but i would recommend a efi swap but it is a great truck to build into a nice crawler/dd

Jake, welcome to YT:

Like BIg Arms said, it would be an awesome first truck to get. They do very well on the trail in stock form and are easy to build up as you come across extra cash. They can be built to be unstoppable.
1st gen 4runners are great since you can take the roof off, something I miss about my old '86.

Here are a few links that will help get you going:

Good luck and post up some pic's when you get the new beast...

Excellent first truck. Mine was also an '84 4Runner. I've also had 2 '85 4Runners and do like the EFI a lot more but I would take that '84 anytime to build on. If you sought fuel injection down the road, why not a Vortec V-6 since you will have to go from scratch anyway.

Instead of lifting first, you might want to consider a locker or two, and some taller tires. 33x10.5 are a pretty good fit, with only minor clearance issues that can mostly be solved with a hammer.

Then go drive the thing.
