I have just swapped out the motors and am putting it back together, but realized the intake and exhaust manifolds are different (pear v. round shaped). I did a search and came back with mainly the differences with deck height and t/chain differences. My question is can I use my 85 22R (carb) intake and exhaust manifold on the 83 22R without any major modifications? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

I put a 82 22r into a 86 and used the 86 intake and used a turbo exhaust manifold gasket that I had . If I remember right there where two bolts holes on the 86 exhaust manifold that where not drilled, so I used a manifold that was drilled. It has been a several years ago but, if I remember right that was the only problems.

 

So, what you can recall the intake went on with no problems? I have a header I can use that was on the 83 motor, but that may take some tinkering to get to fit with the rest of the factory 85 exhaust.

 

I don't remember needing any parts beside what was on the two motors to swap the intake.
