4runner tire carrier?

Has Anybody done a body mounted tire carrier modified to carry offroad tires? IE a newer Gen 4runner tire carrier or other makes? I'm wanting to carry a 38.5 spare without putting it on the roof.... And pics because....why not 😂 Name: DSC_0100_zpsy8xjcpun.jpg

So, I'm running similar sized tires and working on a similar project. I am ALSO curious as to your rear fender cuts. Seems as though our runners are difficult to deal with in that department, due to how the inner fender ties in to the main side panel.

Why would you want that much weight hanging off the body of the truck?
Didn't know the Goodyear duratrac camE in a 38.
CBI Off road makes a nice hitch receiver mounted tire carrier

+1 for the CBI tire carrier. Goes into a 2'' reciever. About $380 shipped, I believe.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot I made this thread (get side tracked easy) and they're not duratracks they're pitbull maddogs..and I'd like to have some sort of spare and I use my cargo area to carry things...I'd use reinforcement plates and such on the inside for sure ..and I have a build thread on here "the streak" has how I cut them and all the steps and photos to go with it

I'll havta check them out, thanks guys

I just had a friend pick up a 96 fj80 and it has a custom rear bumper with a big pinion mount build in to the bumper for a swing away tire carrier. Holds a 33" very secure and look like he could put a 38 on if he had to. I will try and get some pics. But I plan on trying to duplicate it for my runner.

Here's one I thought about using, a modified Nissan Pathfinder spare tire carrier. Seems like if you plated the inside of the body panel it would hold up good, I don't know about a 38.5" spare though, lol.

Looks pretty darn good to me, but yeah I'd probably have to do a bit more reinforcement than just plates, and likewise for the latch...hmmm I wonder if L style brackets that tie the corners together would be enough?

I know this is a old thread but I was thinking of the same thing. What fab work was done to get the tire carrier to fit? Does it hold up good or you need more reinforcement?
