22r Gas Mileage

I have a carbed 84 22r. On a recent 400 mile round trip I got 19.28 mpg highway. And just over 13 putting around our very hilly property for 3 days. What kind of mileage do some of the other 22r carbs get? Mine is also a 5 speed manual. I don't know anything about the rear ratio. It is a 4WD and it's the way it came from the factory.

That's about what I get in my 83, even freshly rebuilt. I ought to get better...but I've got some kind of emissions/vacuum issue somewhere. I think 20-24mpg highway is pretty standard for a well tuned 22R.

I average around 16 with 4.10s and 31s without taking speedometer inaccuracy into account.

I got 24 driving 65-70mph, anything over that(70-80mph) it drops into the high teens. It's worth it when trying to get through Kansas though.

when i had my 84 with a 22r and 5speed, i was typically getting around 18-22 mixed highway and city. and that was driving as fast and hard as i could push it with new rings, rebuilt head and free flowing exhaust. That was in texas at around 800' elevation IIRC I noticed on my way to college in it when i had swapped an RE in, as i got higher in elevation and farther north, i was getting way better mileage. then i threw a rod outside of colorado springs cause i had hydrolocked the engine twice and never checked the push rods. (idiotic i know)

pushrods??..im guessing you meant connecting rods lol.

in my 22r..rebuilt..EB 261* cam..header..and about a 6ft exhaust system (dumps under the cab..turbo muffler) i get around 20..but i also have a fricked up carburetor...

i just rebuilt my carb and am in the process of tuning the little bugger..and fixing vacuum leaks...im hoping after i get everything tned right that i will get at least 22-24 on the freeway..(this is with 4.10's and 31" X-terrains.)

yeah i guess that is what i meant lol. i've heard them called so many different things i don't remember anymore.

Also when i got a ceramic clutch from Marlin, i noticed that i lost a mile or two. i guess because of the instant engagement and because it was so fun to pop the clutch and just take off.

hmmm , makes me wonder what is wrong with mine right now. Just figured mine out today, and in stop and go traffic here in va, i get 15.58 mpg. wasn't too happy with it, but for the way this place goes, i guess it was ok. headed on a 1200 mile round trip on turkey weekend, will update what it gets then.
