22r dies on ilde, misses
Just bought my 84 pickup a few weeks ago. I bought it in part because it's idle was much smoother than any of the other pickups i test drove. It occasionally would sputter for a second and die on its way down from fast idle. The other day I started it and it was idling up and down and and the bottom it would sputter and the lights would dim, so i sprayed the carb down with carb cleaner, and it was idling super smooth for two days, and no longer sputtering on its way down from high idle.
then it happened,
I was leaving for a two hour drive and the truck hesitated a bit a block into it. kinda felt like clogged fuel filter. but then was running fine. I stopped to pick up a starter (this i knew was dying) and about five miles down the road it started missing and loping, but running good when i rev the engine, i pulled over and it was idling super rough, the stick was shaking.. and then it died, and then upon restarting it dies on idle, but runs ok above a certain rpm (i dont know exact because i have no tach). got it back to autoparts store replaced fuel filter, no help. spark plugs look fine, replaced for the hell of it. got home, read posts on this forum, tried more carb cleaner. I knowticed something funny though, normally it idles nice and carb cleaner makes rpm's drop, now it idles horrible (clearly missing almost allways dying) and carb cleaner makes rps's shoot up real high. any tips, i need car to work or I walk an hour to work tomorow

rebuild carb.. I did mine. The best thing i have ever done.. Go to advanced get the kit (30 bucks) take your time and replace all the gaskets and jets and blah blah blah.. Make sure the carb seats and seals between the intake and carb. Mine was running pretty bad becausse of that.. So i got some gasket sealant that didnt desolve to gas and used it. RUNS AWESOME NOW!

also check your fuses, it may be the idle circuit, see if you have any loose or corroded connections going to/from the carb
