Throw in some ( insert different bucket seat here) and you'll be happier then what you have now.

I'm a fan of the Impreza seats. Firm but comfortable.

The trouble with that plan is that you need the passenger seat to slide forward to admit back seat passengers. Even my then 8 year old could not get in the back without sliding the seat forward. The most comfy 1st gen 4Runner seats are 87-89 SR5 seats. They are cloth and the drivers side has an adjustable lumbar support. I've seen somewhere that a guy mounted the cushions from a later 4Runner on to the old sliding frame.

My 88 has that speaker mentioned above.

I have the little speaker built in behind the seat. It looks to have a built in amp or something? Anyone need one? I'm putting enclosed speakers behind the seats. If I can figure out picture posting, I'll go take some.

I would be interested in seeing the speaker your are talking about. I have never seen one of those. Never even heard of it until just now.

Does it say Toyota anywhere on it? The plug looks pretty clean and white for being there since the truck was new.

I think I've come across one or two of those in the junk yard. Didn't see a need for it so didn't grab it.

I would consider the SR5 seats to be rare in the sense that you just cannot get them today and the pattern is not available. Is it possible to find a set out there from a truck that currently has it? Yes but its going to be a difficult search. And then add the quality factor which makes the search even harder. Most seats these days after 30+ years are torn and ripped.

I have been restoring my truck to the stock look and was lucky to find SR5 seats available from a guy in NY (I live in CA) through a nationwide Craigslist search.

I never heard of the speaker option although my truck has the rear speakers in the side panels.

This is the best image I have right now of the seats.

Shisha1999 That's a nice clean interior.

The speaker looks just like the metal speaker they put in police cars for a two way radio. As a single speaker it couldn't possibly be for acoustics. If it's wired to the radio that's really interesting.

I'd love to see a thread for interesting options like the trouble light a few people have. I have a DLX so no options. Also a thread for aftermarket options made for the 4Runner but no longer available. I have a set of tread plate rocker covers made by Northwest Off Road. I think they were an early attempt at rockers. I did see a brand new unused set for sale recently on Craigslist and the guy wanted $$$. All they are is bent tread plate.

The plug is original. It runs under carpet and goes directly to radio. It only has bass, very little voice comes out of it. I'll open it up tomorrow and see if it says Toyota on it.

Model number: 86150-89102. I googled it and it is an O.E. discontinued part.

Hmm, neat. Never heard of one of those. I guess it might be worth something to someone but I have never seen anyone else asking about one. Wouldn't call it as desirable as the inclinometers or dual storage center consoles with armrest.

I'm not keeping it either. I don't like just bass and I have a set of pioneers that fit perfect behind the seat.

I have been working on these trucks for years and have always been interested in rare parts for these trucks. I had never even heard of that rear speaker until I read this. I have a factory brochure and FSM for 1987, and I do not recall seeing anything about it in there, either. I will have to look harder to see if it has any information. It looks to me like it is a very small subwoofer, which most people probably replaced early on if they even had it.

I might be interested in purchasing it from you if it is cheap enough. That might be a good compact bass setup if I can put a more modern woofer in it.
