1985 4 runner rear window spoiler

You all will remember my question regarding the fumes that roll in the rear window on my 4 runner. FIXED IT !

I bought a spoiler from a 95 on e-bay - the mounts would not work as the roof lines are different. I could not find anything that would work except wood. I used 1 X 3 solid oak to make the mounts - sealed with black gelcoat and mounted with 1 X 1 aluminum angle brackets and stainless steel screws. Sealed to the roof with 3M 5200. I did spend the last 24 years in the boat business !!!!

The spoiler works like a charm - slow speed or fast.

What do you think ? Red neck engineering !!!

That purdy white 2nd generation is mine !!

The wife drives a 2007 Toyota Camry. Actually, I did take the spoiler off the 2nd generation to see if it would work on the 85. I saw immediately that I would have to make the mounts but the wing section would work.

Oh by the way - that 2nd generation has been all over Tellico. 1st trip it was stock on 31's and no sliders. It is Tellico tested

I got mine from JC Whitnet many years ago, a universal fit unit (it is folded down in the picture below):

Hey Roger !

I looked in JC Whitney but could not find anything that I thought would work.
I used my 2nd generation spoiler as a test and then went that route.

Maybe not the best solution but it works ! The oak wood blocks are sealed
and the 5200 seals and will never leak. I could not believe how much exhaust gets pulled through that rear window ! I was afraid for my dog to ride back there.

I like your top lift set up - thinking about doing that myself. I don't think my runner has ever had the top off. Every little thing looks factory including the screw heads.

Just another work in progress ! Gotta love it - it's amazing how vechicles respond to a little TLC.
