I got my 1982 pickup today and not long after it started raining. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the gasket has shrunk and dry-rotted. I need to replace is ASAP and would prefer to go with OEM unless there is something better. Do I just need part number 56121 or do I also need 55791?

55791 is a gasket for the cowl panel, actually where the hood sits on the cowl panel, you don't need it. Rockauto has gaskets also. My local glass shop said they can get the gasket too, probably from Rockauto. Is it still available from the dealer?

I am pretty sure it is still available from Toyota. I found it listed online from dealers. I’ll call my local Toyota dealer tomorrow. I take it that this is better quality than aftermarket from rockauto?
Ordered the windshield weatherstrip/gasket this morning. It should arrive next week. Should I go ahead and put some silicon on there until I get it replaced?
Nothing wrong with some silicone as long as you're willing to clean it up really well before you install the new gasket. I guess you can't get it inside or under a roof somehow?

I can’t get it under roof right now. I ordered the gasket from Toyota and it should be here next week. I thought about just sealing those cracks with grease for the next few days. That might be a better solution since it’s only for a about 5-7 days
I have and that is why I am hesitant to use it. I had the window regulator go out in a car once so until I could fix it I held it in place with duct tape. It took me hours upon hours to clean it up and I never got it all the way clean. I did learn that WD-40 helps to remove it, but it is still a chore
I was thinking of how hard it was to remove silicone from around the windows of my camper. Not sure if silicone comes off car paint easier than fiberglass. But yeah, tarp and bungie cord!
