where else should I look? Rear cab corners look fine from underneath. I think I have rust behind windshield as I have a spot of rust inside the upper A piller I believe it's called. It's one random spot but makes me wonder.
the floors seem okay as I broke out the red floor covering and it is grey metal as shown in the pics.
This is the only spot on both sides but does it mean rust under windshield?
thanks guys

I don't think that is rust INSIDE the A-pillar. The A Pillar sheet metal is almost like a closed "tube". That is the gutter that is merely tack welded at certain points outside the A-pillar tube - like a "wing"- then seam sealed. The seam seal fails, water gets in the interface between A-pillar and gutter strip and causes rust.
I have removed seam seal on my gutter and A-pillar gutter and cleaned the area as much as possible. I'll clean some more before I make Permatex rust converter (Yes, that's the one that turns black upon contact with metal) into the crevices / gaps, let that cure, clean all accessible application surface back to bare metal and apply Dynatron seam sealer, prime, then paint.
Good chance you will find rust around the windshield. That trim traps dirt and moisture and promotes rust. Hopefully rust on windshield mounting area does not penetrate and did no develop under the glass so you can easily clean and patch. If rusted, best to clean to bare metal, rust-proof and paint. However, if rusted under the glass, best to remove glass, clean to bare metal, and rust-proof before reinstalling glass.
Obviously, better to leave it alone until you're ready to tackle what might be necessary.

Dont worry about the scratch. Many people ger away with worse. Once you dig into that winshield, you will be commmitted. At least don't touch the glass, if you don't have a leak.
