Question Weber setup

Hello all, This site is awesome!!! lot's of knowledgeable Yota owners here!

I am going to be de smogging my 83 yota 4x4 truck, and installing a weber 32/36 DGEV today. It has a 22r stock motor, and I have a header on it.

I have also purchased a Weber high altitude kit, i am at 5500 ft. I have searched and found a lot of information on this site, but still have not really found an answer on what i need to change out on this carb?

I purchased a fuel regulator as well.

I found out that weber builds the carbs at sea level and this is what comes stock in this carb.

Primary main jet = 140
Secondary main jet = 140
Primary air corrector = 170
Secondary air corrector = 160
Primary idel jet = 60
Secondary idel jet = 50

Any Weber experts here know what i need to change in order for this carb to run right at this altitude??

I am gunna go start the desmog now and will check back a lil later to see if anyone can help me.

I really appreciate any and all info!!
Thanx

you can start by re tuning the carb using the lean-best-idle procedure and go from there.

and then afterwords, this might help:

You may not have to do anything beyond idle jet changes, and maybe not even that. On mine, also a stock '83 22r with a header, and at 4,000' elevation, I actually had to go up to a 65 idle jet for lean best mix when it was still a progressive carb.

Let us know how it goes!

Well, the de smog went well!! got rid of everything! I installed the weber and the fuel regulator and it would not start??? so I tried removing the regulator and it fired right up? do all of you run with fuel regulators?

it actually is running really well!! I did not change anything. I have the air fuel mix out 2 turns, and it is ideling really good!

I took it out for a lil test run and all seems to be running alot better then before!!

how can I tell if I am running to rich or to lean?? what would the spark plugs tell me? i forget what to dark means..rich? what color should they be?? light brown?

I want to make sure i set this carb up to run at it's best performance... any tips or suggestions?

Thanx!!

I've been running a Weber 32/36 with the stock mechanical fuel pump and NO regulator for over three years now with zero issues.

You'll get the crowd that says you gotta run a Weber with an electric FP and a regulator to bring the pressure down to 2-4 PSI, but I throw the BS flag on that one.

I run the regulator 3.5 psi as well. What kind of regulator are you using? Maybe you had a fuel line or two mixed up as there is 3. Might only be 2 on an 83 not really sure.

there is only 2 fuel lines, an in and an out... what symtems would i be having if there was a need for the regulator? i did install a new factory fuel pump during this work.

the regulator i baught is a spectre and had it set at 3.5.

ewww, ditch that dial type regulator, they are crap, your better off just running without one. Holley is a much better choice with the regulator, or a mallory. You would just have to get a fuel pressure gauge to hook to the regulator to set it.

Running too high of a fuel pressure can cause the carb to run rich beacuse the float needle may unseat due to too high of a pressure. Weber even states to run 3-4psi.

Beside the jets were designed for a specific pressure as well. Higher pressure means more flows through the jets in the carb.

Also it helps on inclines as well if you drop the pressure even further ie to 1 - 1.5 psi since it keeps the fuel level in the bowl a little lower.

Best way to check is the spark plug color. Should ideally be light tan, darker means rich and lighter means lean. Just a touch rich is going to be better for your motor than lean.

It should be just fine. I just installed one a month or so ago without a regulator or anything and it runs great.

I could prolly shortin the fuel line now and move the inlet to the other side, sense the regulator did not seem to work for me, or maybe the length of the hose now is why it works??

nice lookin truck. where's your radiator shroud? if it ever runs hot in stop and go traffic, that's probably why. de-smogging these 22R yotas is one of the best things you can do IMO.
