I can't help you with the solenoid issue but I can tell you I just installed the same carb on a 85 and per the instructions I attached the vac advance to the rear most port on the distributor. it ran like crap and was puffing black smoke on start. I switched to the port on the dist closest to the radiator and it runs much better. i verified the advance operation with a timing light. the rear most port (on dist) was only advancing 8 degrees. the front port is upwards of 12-14 degrees. hope this helps

Let me ask you this, what is the purpose of the cut-off solenoid and how does it work? Let me answer that for that smog tech, the purpose of the cut-off solenoid is to prevent fuel from entering the engine when key is set to the off position. How does it do this? but having the 12v removed from it when the key is off, thus shutting the solenoid. there is no in between it's either open or shut, if open engine runs, if the engine stops. So ask yourself this? How would the 02 sensor control that solenoid and still keep the engine running?

And broknbonz is right about the distributor advance. Only one is used the front one. rear one gets capped.

step 1) Go to a place that sells 116 octane fuel
step 2) fill your tank
step 3) add octane booster
step 4) take smog test, fry their computers, pass smog test, and get asked to never come back and never have to get smogged again.
