weber carb smog help...running rich
as i made in another post of installing a 32/36 weber carb (dgav) onto my 82 22r. now ive took it to smog and the smog technician said that it is running to rich. ive install the unit the way it came including egr vacuum and idle solenoid. do i have to change jets or what is there that i can do to make pass smog.

You take the top off the carb and measure the distance the float goes before stopping the gas. (The measurement should be with the paperwork you got with the carb.) Then just bend the metal bracket the float is on to get that measurement. When I measured mine it was way off, mine was brand new too.

K... Got the chance to check the float. It was off alot. It was 40mm and 45mm. So put it to 40 and 50mm. Taking it to the smog again tomorrow. Will let you guys know what happen. As for the idle fuel cut solenoid, I have it share with the electrical chock wire. Or do I have to wire it to the factory solenoid positive?
Also my fuel pressure was at 2psi so I got a regulator to set it at 3psi. Not sure if this will matter. I'm just going by what weber say to.

either the pump is bad, or the carb is just spewing fuel into the engine and the fuel pump can't keep up. Which if that were the case, I would highly doubt the engine would even idle. I'd be willing to bet the pump is bad. At idle it's giving 2psi which would be enough to keep the engine running at idle. but when you rev it, it might be giving enough to keep it running, However since the carb has been tuned at very little fuel flow at idle it then runs rich when it's at operating rpm. What is the fuel pressure when engine is reved, and how many turns is the idle mix (not idle screw) screw out?

the car idle and drive fine. i do notice black smoke when revving the engine on idle. can the carb be running rich if the pressure is not to what weber say for it to be at? 3-3.5psi?
would a fuel pump be the problem? the weber carb is brand new,

if the carb is brand new you should not have had to fool with the float level. where did that measurement spec come from?
Did you follow the lean best idle adjustment on the crb? how many turns out is the mix screw?

a guy here in the fourm had the same problem and it was the float that was off and his weber carb was brand new. I check the float and it was off to spec. with it sitting vertical the float was 40mm and with the float out it was 45mm. on weber site the spec were 40mm and 50mm. so i made it to what weber called for. i had it smog before and after and still rich. yes i follow the lean idle adjustment but i will double check the idle lean screw when i get home.

it can, but not on a carb'd truck. Not that I know of anyway as there is nothing on these carb's for the o2 sensor to control. Especially not one with a weber on it.

find a new smog tech cus he's an idiot. Tell him on a toyota there is no feedback control on the carb'd trucks. Even the cali emissions ones with an 02 sensor. The o2 sensor is on the cali trucks as far as I know for the sole purpose of tripping an engine light.

will i was doing some search for my year car with an o2 sensor and a few people did say something about the o2 controlling the fuel cut off solenoid. if it does control the solenoid. how do i wire up the weber solenoid? the weber solenoid is a one wire sensor where the factory solenoid is 2 wire. now i have it wire to the electrical chock and i think that is a all time 12v. i could be wrong. or do i wire it to the positive position of the factory solenoid positive wire??
