I have searched and read a ton of stuff on ticking, clicking and knocking but this sounds unlike anything I have heard. The valve cover had a new gasket, grommets and was just snug. The engine set for 3 years. The noise is loudest coming from the drivers side middle of the head and possibly behind the exhaust manifold.

I will double check the valve cover tomorrow. Someone suggested the flywheel bolts hitting the dust cover but after laying under it and listening I don't think that was it. Any ideas ?

 

It was the MSD ignition box. Crazy huh ?

 

That is strange indeed. What exactly was going on with the box? I didn't know they had any moving parts.

 

There is a square magnet looking thing inside that was making all the noise. I could put a little pressure on it and the noise would stop, it had a small piece of double sided tape that probably kept pressure on it from the back cover but it looked old and worn out so I glued on a rubber strip and bolted it back together, so far so good.
