Thoughts on this '82?
Hey guys-
Relative newbie to the forum but have had my eye on a first or second gen pickup for the last couple of months.
Came across this 1982 SR5 with factory air, and it looked really clean. Description is not as detailed as I would like but the truck looks to be in great shape, especially for 225k miles.
Thoughts?

My goal would be to keep the truck as a driver, no intention of adding any additional mods other than cosmetic.

that thing looks straight as an arrow, getting pretty rare, you should buy it if you plan on taking good care of it then one day if you decide to sell it you can get more than what you paid for I'm sure.

Such a short description for such a seemingly good truck. I'd be slightly suspect as to what is under that fresh paint. There are certainly some survivors out there, but not that many. I'd want to see some restoration pictures or some historical evidence to see if it is legitimately a survivor. The true story could lie underneath that carpet - rusted cab corners, paint variations, repairs, etc. i'm not saying that it isn't a good truck, I would just do my homework first. If it is all original and rust free, expect at least $15,000 which would still be a hell of a deal because $15K couldn't restore a truck like that - I know first hand.

As a comparable there was another blue '82 that was stripped down to the frame and completely restored that sold last month on ebay for $19k. That was WELL documented and a lot of money was put into that truck.

Yup, I can't tell you how many "rust free" trucks I saw when looking for mine that looked just fine until I peeled a little carpet or got under it with a pick. If they don't want you scraping around underneath it, then buyer beware. I went to visit one freshly painted/new carpet truck where the owner had purposely covered the rust with considerable effort and expense to do so, glued the new carpet so solidly to where it couldn't even be peeled back and bed lined the entire bottom of the truck with numerous coats, using seam sealer and whatever else to butter up the rust areas to be covered over. Sides of the bed @ spot welds were the same way, seam sealed, bondo and fresh, pretty paint over the rust. He was extremely nervous and started clamoring about "what I was doing" as I got under the truck, which also raised my suspicions. When I pulled my trusty pick out, it might has well have been a gun.....Needless to say, I found his repairs. I didn't even need to use the "gun", a hunk under the accelerator pedal had come off and was hanging, exposing the fresh carpet and rust. I didn't say another word to him, just got in my vehicle and drove off. This wasn't just a "Oh I didn't know" kind of thing, which made it worse in my eyes. He probably bought it very cheap and was looking to flip it for a quick profit. a magnet and a pick are your best friends when searching for an unmolested gen 1.....

They look original style but appear to have been reupholstered, the ribbed stitching pattern on originals is farther apart. I just saw a nice pair on craigslist for $150. locally but they went fast.

My bench seems to have been redone in a vinyl material, and in this 110 degree weather it gets hot fast! Plus it would be nice to have a center console.
