I have to admit I am a n00b and have numbered 7 things in the pic, could you let me know what they are and what they do, I believe #2 is the fuel filter, which, btw looks nasty and has the "teA" on it, does that mean its super old or do they still say TEA on them?

haynes manual does not list them.

2--yes it is the fuel filter

Fuel pump is 6, looks easy to deal with if I ever need to!

4 Wish I knew, but yeah part of the air/emissions stuff. Mine doesn't have it
5 weird, looks like a power steering reservoir but that's on the other side. Mine doesn't have that either, I guess toyota4x4907 may have that right?

7 yup just a wire connection. They're all over the place in your engine and cab. Any electrical part which ties into another, but is a part that may need replacement, will connect to other parts with a plug. If everything electrical was just wired together, every time something needed to be replaced you have to cut wires. This way you just unplug it.

That truck looks just like the one I pulled my carb off of. I don't understand the vacuum setup there, and it's not california model truck, right? I don't know what the difference is but it's definitely different than my '83s set up. Weird.

 

#2 Is definitely fuel fliter

 

#2 does look like a fuel filter, but on mine it is on a fuel line by the gas tank, wierd

 

Yeah I think somebody decided it would be easier to get at up there and relocated it.

 

Number 2 has a little arrow pointing at one of the hoses and has fuel in it I just looked, so that has to be the fuel filter. nice and easy to get to!! does toyota still have the old TEA on the filters, I think it says tea?? its on the oil cap as well. maybe it was a ca truck way back when? anyone have a car fax? can all emissions stuff come off?

 

Never a bad idea to replace the fuel filter and throw another one in the truck just in case. They're super cheap. Who cares if it's old? I'd just replace it. You can get two for under $10 at Napa, I'm pretty sure.

If you want to get rid of the emissions stuff, get a weber. Too much stuff to block off on the Aisin carb.

 

Mine is stock and has a fuel filter in the same location(#2 in the picture), But it has another one on the frame rail by the gas tank too..

Oh and if its running good, dont touch the carburetor or emissions stuff.. Webers are expensive.

Your guys are probably right about #2 being a fuel filter. It looks like the HAC has like 4 smaller vacuum hoses coming off it and there shouldn't be fuel in it, only air...the one in the pic has a larger hose coming off it.

#5 has got to be the reed valve. I see the hose coming from #4 connect to #5.

And yeah, EGR is on the rear of the engine.

 

Yeah it's more or less in the right place to be the HAC and would sit in the same kind of bracket, but, right, it just looks too much like a fuel filter not to be. This is fun though! We should do more stuff like this.

#7 I can tell you mine burnt up. Lost all power to the fuse box. Then some dumb A$% ran wires to every thing on the truck (wipers,blinkers,fuel gauge,head lights). Guess they couldn't fine the fuse connection was burnt up. Took me a hole five min. to find the problem.

 

I think what you think is TEA is TEQ = Toyota in Japanese.
