Spits sputters and back fires

My 83 runs fine until it gets hot, not over heating just several miles, then it starts sputtering and backfiring, doesnt die, but close. Wont maintain speed, has a new fuel pump, and is pumping plenty of fuel, 32/36 carb has been rebuilt. Any thoughts?

Have you checked around meticulously for vacuum leaks? What adapter are you using?

ive already eliminated the fuel system. If it was fuel related heat wouldnt affect it

I had everything working perfect on my truck and turned out that the debris in my fuel filters would build up after a few miles and slow the fuel flow causing it to sputter and nearly stall. I'd slow down a bit and it would run fine until I gave it gas again - the debris would slow the flow on heavier demand.

Regardless, you have had two people offer opinions and you discredited both of them - seemingly without even checking your truck. People are here to help, but if you think you know more about vehicles to not even check then you're wasting your time as well as the time of those offering help.

hey, I have not discredited anyone.... I said i had checked this. The problem does not seem to be rpm related, its distance related. doesnt matter rpm it will barely run, the only thing i have not checked is dropping the tank and seeing if its rusty, but there is not rust in the filter to indicate that it is.

One thing that would get you ahead is to know why the engine is sputtering I.e is it because it is too rich (black smoke out the exhaust, black spark plugs) or too lean (no smoke, whiter grey plugs) or if the igntion system is acting up (weak spark). Sometimes coils can go bad when they get hot and produce a weaker spark, but that is usually more noticable at low rpm and clears up a little at higher rpm, I don't think it's hard to check the coil.
