sloppy shifter fix??

The shifter in my truck is so sloppy. Like pushing rope. I have seen an auction on ebay for a shifer bushing which claims to fix the problem. Seems a little too good to be true. Any thoughts.

obviously a 5spd? if so, do a search on the shifter seat replacement.

auto huh? no idea. if i recall, there is a plastic guide on the top of the tranny that tends to wear down and break up. check that out.

I had that same problem with my 5speed shifter being way too sloppy. I found the link that 4Crawler posted and used that part diagram. I bought the nylon seat from Marlin and that fixed everything.

after '80, all the shifter seats(except one for a certain W56 variant if i recall) were interchangeable.

I took another look at my tranny the other day. In the link above, the shifter looks like it goes directly into the top of the gear box. On my 4 speed, the shifter is supported at it's fulcrum to the right of the tranny with some sort of linkage on the bottom. Any idea which tranny this is? I'll try to get some identification numbers.

In one of the 4x4 mags they had a write up on sloppy shifting in early yotas, and said contact your dealer for the part. They said it's easy to replace. I have to do the same to mine but I have a five speed. Hopefully its the bushing!
