setting up gear pattern

so i am setting up some 4.56 gears and a aussie locker in my 82 truck.i got the aussie in with no problems.(easy install).but setting up the gears is a mind boggling experiance.i have set the pinion depth at .093 with a pinion preload of 11 inch pounds with solid colar installed.I oiled the bearings also.I set the baclklash at .008 to .012 was the worst case.the side adjusters are a pain in the a$$ to turn if i tighten the caps tight.i am also using anti seize on them.here is the pattern i get seems the pinion is ok on depth but it is way deep in the root of the tooth.i have looked throught zuk's wbsite and all over on here about gears.i just wanted to get some advise from anyone who has done gear intalls themselfs.

Go to the yukon gear website. They have pics of acceptable patterns.

You look too deep on the pinion man...pull about .008 to .010 out of your pinion shim and check it again.

went to 4x4 shop for advise and help

ok so i have been trying to get a good paint pattern on this gear setup.went into central 4x4 today and they told me that the used v6 gears i am trying to use in my 4cyll third wont work.that factory gears will only work in the housing they come with from the factory.he said that he would give it a shot to get a good pattern but i'm not about to pay $69 hour to find out they cant get it to work out. i have already compensated for the pinoin head differences short pinion vs long pinion head with the v6 inner bearing.is there any truth in what he said about the factory gears will not work in any other housing in whitch they came?zuk saye's they will fit and proves it works on his site!

problem with setting up gears .. is that its a TIME thing .. you want the BEST patern so they last , and have no "noise" or heat build up ..

what can anyone say .. if you cant do it yourself !!! best to pay someone who can

used gears are especially hard to set up .. I doubt you ever get a great patern !! Personally .... I would have stuck with the FIRST pattern , and called er' good .. I didnt realize they were used gears !!!

if zuk said it will work then i believe him, he is a master gear installer...

the second pattern looks better, but not good. take out another .003 or .004 and take a look. backlash should be between .006 and .010 . and make sure you can turn those adjuster wheels by hand after the caps have been torqued. if you cant then there probably not in there right, or the treads are damaged.

this is what i tried to do is take it to somone who could set it up for me but the teenage kid at the counter was leading me to believe it couldent be done.was talking to me like he knew it all.but yet wasnt making me feel confident the shop could do it.it's the fact i tried to take it to a shop to have it done and they failed to help me so i took them home and figured it out for myself. gears are in the truck and running cool and quiet.
