Rear axle O-ring

So I am almost(fingers crossed) ready to put my rear axles back in and I am having a hard time finding the correct o-ring that goes between the end of the axle and the brake backing plate. None of the auto parts stores I have gone to have any info on that part and o-rings in there were too messed up to get any good idea of the actual size. I made a tracing of where the axle sits and tried to find something at the hardware store, but they only had stuff under 2 5/8'' and over 3something. Does anyone have a dimension or a part number for this piece so I can get the right one. I have seem rear wheel bearing kits with the o-ring, but they never have any dimensions listed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Zack

Yes there's an o-ring:

But...a lot of guys just use FIPG. Not sure on a part number but your local Toyota dealer can get it for you.

There ya go! The dealer probably wants $100 for the o-ring anyway.

I guess I will have to call the dealer. I was hoping to get some dimensions so I could just try to get something at home depot, but I guess I will have to see if it is cheaper to get the parts from the dealer or order them all the way from cali.

Do you have a tape measure? If so, measure the end of the axle housing and there's your dimensions. As mentioned earlier you can always use FIPG instead of the o-rings.

If you don't know, please don't spread bad info.

Oring at dealer under $5 each. Mine keeps them in stock.

I don't see any bad info except the $100 comment which was a joke. Guess I should be more careful.

Thanks for all the info. I will try the dealer and see what they say. I just inadvertently bought myself some more time when I broke my homemade special service tool to remove my rear wheel bearings. Back to the garage after dinner for some cutting and welding. I guess it is a good thing that I got some more cutoff wheels today, but then again if I didn't have them I bet the tool would not have broken.

I just got a pair from the Salem, OR dealer. I think the 5 dollar price sounds right, though he only had one in stock so I had him mail the other one to me. The shipping was more than the O-ring, sheesh. I haven't installed mine yet. Three separate seals per side in those axles, and they still leak. Crazy.
