pre 84, are we the bastard children?

whats the deal with , i want to buy a bitchin tube winch bumper from some of the yotatech shops, 1984 is the cutoff, i have a 1983. i wanna buy tube doors, once again 1984 is the cutoff. its like us 1979 - 1983 guys can't buy stuff off the shelf like the post 1983 guys can. makes me wanna hide solid axles from IFS guys to get back at their bumper/tube door having butts!
nah just kidding, does anyone know will 84/85 bumpers and what not fit the pre 84 trucks? or and i gonna have to fire up the millermatic?

Yeah all the vehicle makers are going under, and the answere is right there under their nose. Just build these again, and sell them at a good price. like they used to. As little emissions as they can get away with, no fancy crap on the body and interior, plastic floors, and seats I would buy one for a dd.

Its a result of our modern society. They want us to drive it a few years then junk it. Toyota parts guy told me they are now having trouble getting parts for 1990 trucks

almost positive 84 bumps will not work on your 83
i know front bumps wont for sure.

if you want i know of an 87 runner goes by azkid, ive got a spare key to the truck
to trade you his 4runner for your 1st gen pickup so you can buy off the shelf parts

jk my brother would be pissed haha

I think adapting parts from 84-85 trucks isn't so bad. At least that's what i'm told. Bumper-wise anyway, don't know how you'd try to adapt doors, that'd be a project...

Parts are finally drying up for the pre '84 trucks I think. Lots of aftermarket repair parts can still be had but even then a lot of the boxes I get from the parts stores are really old and dusty.

While conceptually I agree that I wish modern trucks were more like these old ones, I do not resent advances like electronic fuel injection, ABS, airbags, or whiplash protection.

Perhaps Toyota needs to expand their Scion line of vehicles to include a little basic pickup - lightweight yet tough in their economical line of vehicles... If they could do it without a bunch of gaudy wheel choices and techno music in their commercials then maybe people would actually buy it too.

Better yet, get yourself a 100$ mig buzzbox and a 140$ bender from Harbor Freight. Make yourself what you need, and have fun doing it too. Just be sure to take your time if you do, nothing is worse than when you rush, balls it all up, get frustrated, and wreck materials...

I've had fantastic luck with a salvage yard named pull-a-part here in the atlanta area. I have tons of gauge clusters, and other impossible to find parts for my 1980's. I wanted the bed of the one I saw the other day, damn flawless, and it might have cost me $150. Didn't have a way to get it home.
