Power steering pump

I am finally getting around to converting my 82 4x4 over to power steering. I had the parts given to me several years ago, but the truck has been sitting for a while now while I’ve been busy with other things. Anyway, I replaced the idler pulley bearing and installed the pump on my engine today. I noticed that there are three ports on my pump. Now I would assume you would only have an inlet and an outlet. There are two ports on top, with one being a hose fitting. I’m assuming that is the inlet from the reservoir. But there is a third port on the side of the pump. So I need to know which of the threaded ports is the one that the pressure hose going to the gearbox is supposed to connect (the one on the top or the one on the side)? And what do I do about the other port? (No, I don’t have the pressure hose yet.) I haven’t been able to find a pic of a pump showing all three ports.

i would imagine the uppermost would be the reservoir connection.
as for the in and out, run it for a second and see which side blows.

Well, I know that the hose fitting on the top is the inlet connection from the reservoir, and there should only be one outlet going to the gearbox. But as I said, there are two threaded holes on the pump. One of those has to be the pressure out feeding into the gearbox, but that doesn’t explain the other threaded hole. The output line from the gearbox feeds thru the cooler, then back to the reservoir completing the circuit. So that leaves an open port on the pump with nothing to connect to it. I’d love to find a pic of the hose routing, but so far nothing.

if the pump has three ports, the ret7rn is aupposed to be to the pump not the reservoir. if the reservoir has a return port aswell, u probably have missmatching parts id say.

I know the parts all go together as they came off the same truck. However it was a couple of years newer than mine. The guy I got the parts from scrapped out one of his trucks and saved these parts, however he was storing all his extra stuff at his dads house and he was moving. The guy didn’t have room at his house for all his extra parts so he gave me the PS parts for my truck.

right ok.
well on the pump there are definitely an in and out, and a supply hose. the reservoir may have 2 holes which would probably make it something like this.
