So as many of you probably know, I recently bought an 83 4x4 with the 22r. It's had some idling issues, but I thought I had that figured out. Stopped by autozone to get some wipers and some brake cleaner so I could really figure out the problem. I get home, spray brake cleaner pretty much everywhere, but the idle never came up. All over the vacuum lines, all over the carb, nothing changed. So now I'm back to square one. It idles like crap every once in a while, but then goes back to sewing machine. What gives? I can't decipher any rhyme or reason to this. And today I floor it and it wants to cut out!

more testing, more brake cleaner, ether, sprayed ether on the manifold directly underneath the throttle cable, and revs come up. WTF!?!?!? so I spray some where that shaft runs into the carb. Nothing. Ok, I'll bite, what's going on here? tugged at wires, jiggled stuff around, all seems tight, vacuum advance seems good as far as I can tell. the idle air thingy? I'm at a loss. NEED HELP!

ok, now I'm really falling out of love with Toyotas... I guess I don't know enough about carbs or something because I don't have a clue. Anything? Anyone? spit it out, even if it seems easy, I have a tendency to overlook easy stuff.

It's got new plugs wires cap rotor seafoamed... master and slave clutch cylinders, new bulbs where the old ones where burned out, lucas oil in both difffs, t case and tranny. Tons of fiddling with it...

did you open it up and see if it was clogged at all? I had a carb that would constantly mess up cause it keep getting clogged in ports. Just filled it up carb cleaner and let it sit and blew it out with a air gun seemed to work.. just rember were those lines go.

I haven't opened up the carb itself. How hard is that(besides the jillion vacuum lines I know htat sucks). on another topic, my roomate is throwing out some 32x11.5/15 BFG AT KOs. how well would they fit without a lift, my tires are old and suck.

um not hard, you can do it with a screw driver just need a new seal, but webers are the best way to go usually, just go slow have a good clean work station and some white finger nail polish or white for the vac lines to number them.

I was messin with it for a while today, tightened up some stuff(nuts, etc) thought I had it, but later drivin down the road and it starts to act up, but not as bad as it was doin this idle thing. I'm kinda thinking it has multiple vacuum leaks because of how it seemed better after messing with it. So now I"m thinking I'll get a big ol' roll of the little stuff, start cutting and replacing one at a time. BUT, my mirror fell of leaving the gas station!

could just throw some bolts in, mine did the same thing so I put some bolts in with a lock washer and some blue thread locker, tho you might need a buddy to hold the other side while you get the nut on. Btw you will be happy one you get your bugs out im still finding little stuff, lol gotta rember these trucks are older than most of us.

guess I should start reading my posts before hitting the button
I mean I should get a roll of vacuum line and replace that to try to narrrow down the areas that may be leaking vacuum
