no spark??? 1983 22r
I got my fuel problem figured out, now I'm not getting any fire. I've had my toyota friends testing everything with a fluke meter, and we are clueless. Its gettin a small amount of power out of the coil but no spark... I got the truck 2 weeks ago, It ran whenever I got it but It cut out and was pouring gas out the bottom of the rusted out tank, I replaced the tank, and had to replace the fuel pump due to all the trash in the lines, finnally got gas to the carb and now it will not start, took out one of the spark plugs and grounded it to see If I had spark and nothing, took the coil wire off put a nail on the end of the wire grounded it to the fender and still nothing, already had all the tune up parts so I put the new plugs in, put the new rotor button on, put the dist. cap on, and put the new wires on and still had nothing, then for a long shot I thought I'd try a new coil, still no spark.
Could it be the ignition control module?
Do yall have any ideas???
I did do some welding to the truck with the battery still connected, could this have done some electrical damage?

I went through this. Not saying it's the same problem but in the end I had to replace the ignitor (ignition module). I replaced the ignition coil, distributer (already had new plugs wires cap & rotor) and nothing worked. I was basically replacing the cheap stuff first...Good luck finding an ignitor for under $300, unless you go with complete crap. Both Napa and Toyota are basically the same price on that part. Actually I remember now that the one I bought from Napa said Toyota right on it.

Go buy a GM Igintion module and change out your ignitor to GM. Do a search on the this sight or go to

They have the information that you need or try this site also

A note I tried using the GM coil and even added a resistor but it didn't work, kept cutting out. When I put the original toyota coil back in she worked like a champ and is still running today on a GM ignition module. Since the ignitor was bad I elected to tear the old module apart. The reason is I used the wiring hook ups for the power, tach feed, and distributor. You ask why, if it didn't work out or I ever wanted to change back to a factory Toyota ignitor I havent messed with the factory wiring and plugs. If you need pictures, send me an Email and I'll see what I can do to send them to you. Most of the pictures are pretty good on the websites above. Read the section on the pirate board about the resistor add for the Tach. There cheap and at Radio Shack. I know you look at the ignitor and it has more wires that the gm hook up the Pirate site explains it. I pulled the ignitor completely apart and used a fluke meter to find out where the fifth wire and resistor needed to be hooked up.
There is a test for the distributor pickup that I would check before removing the ignitor. Don't rule out the other part before hacking into a possible good ignitor.
