No electrical power to anything

1980 2x4, sr5, 20r, Weber carb, one wire alt conversion. Broken ignition switch so I have the run pole tied to power and touch the start pole to power to hit the starter. The alt is self exciting but I have to Rev engine above about 1800 rpm to kick it off.

So driving along the other night, 2am of course, truck lost all electric power to everything but cig lighter, stereo and aux backup lights, all wired directly to the battery. It's done this once before but a jump got me going that time. I thought that time was due to me not kicking the alt off and running the battery out driving home. Now I am not sure of that first occurrence. Ideas?? Thanks

How good is your wire from the positive battery post to the rest of the truck? I don't mean the big one to the starter, I mean the smaller one that sort of splices off that.

But really, no headlights, nothing? It has to be something from your battery.
