New here, and new to me 81 4X4

Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Dean Garlitz, and I live in Sedalia Missouri. I moved here about 8 years ago from Fremont Calif.
I just bought an 81 Toyota Long bed 4X4. It's running 33X12.5X15's with a lift. I don't know how much it's been lifted. It runs pretty good, it needs a little carb work, it won't idle. I think I did pretty good with a purchase price of $600.00. I did put Honda Prelude seats in it, and changed the steering wheel to a Grant wheel, but I've been doing mostly mechanical things to it like tune up, belts, hoses, oil, coolant, etc. Just stuff to make it dependable. Interior will be next, then body and paint at a later date.
I've been into cars all my life, and do all my own work, including body work, paint, interior, wiring, and mechanical.
I had a really nice 79 in Calif., and have been sorry ever since I sold it. It was original paint.
Here's some pictures of the 81, and one of the 79.
Thanks, Dean

Hey Dean,

I think $600.00 is a pretty good price for an indestructible truck. Does it still have the 22R in it? I also have an '81 4x4 long bed deluxe that my dad bought brand new and has passed down to me. I'm sure your truck will turn out nicely.

: )
Nate.

Yes it still has the 22R. It's a 4spd, non power steering and brakes, but it has AC. We had a lot of snow here the last couple of weeks, more than we have had since I moved here, and it's been cold enough that it hasn't melted. It gets around great in it. It just needs some TLC. Dean

good starting point.... I have learned from my mistakes (had 6 old toys sold them and REGRETED it every time) hang on to this one... they don't build them like that anymore.

You don't see them in Missouri. This truck was from Oklahoma, so it has very little rust.

I don't have any more pictures of the 79 on the computer. I only have a few more, and they're in an album. I'll have to look for them, and scan them into the computer. I lived across the 880 freeway from the old Fremont drag strip. Real close to Mission Blvd. and Grimmer. Dean

me too. Undestructable is an understatement and it sounds like you've got the makings of a great truck.
