Hey folks, one of my headlights went out. Ive got voltage coming through the three pin connector and i turned the hi beam on to test it last night and it came on and went out after 10 seconds. Saw some vapor in the lense before it died. So im getting a new bulb.
Anyways, i see different options online and want to know if anyones got ones they like. I dont want to add any extra wiring or relays, just plug and play for right now.

Unfortunately, the headlight system up to 1996 U.S. models have bulb current going over a convoluted path and through the frail contacts of the the dimmer-combo switch.
Google "4crawler convoluted path".
Significant improvement requires adding a relay such as in the H4 Conversion harness, or rewiring yourself. Using higher than normal wattage bulbs may give your brighter light but WILL PUNISH your switch contacts even more.
For a plug-and-play with significant improvement in brightness without beating up your wiring, go LED. Truck-lites may be pricey but our classic trucks are worth it.

 

It really depends on what you want out of your head lights.

The standard Sylvania Basic or Xtra Vision (a little brighter and longer lasting than the Basic series) head lights are good stock "sealed beam" replacements. You could get the Sylvania Silver Star version for brighter light, but they do not last. Your local auto parts store should carry these.

If you really are not happy with the brightness, you will need to modify and spend some money.

The head light wiring modification is a good upgrade to do on a rainy weekend (if you have a garage) or a free afternoon.
