so I picked up a very nice 86 SR5 short bed EFI the motor needs rebuilt ut Im planning on parting it out but stealing a few parts for my self Im planning on taking the IFS rear axle, EFI, W56, bucket seats and a few other parts... is the EFI conversion worth the hastle? I DD my truck and wheel it occasionally and I live at 7k ft and DD my truck every day about 30+ miles

I have the 22r, and I have been thinking about doing an efi swap. Can I keep my motor and do the swap? If so what all would I need. Is that what your doing, or are you doin a motor swap?

I just rebuilt my motor so Im keeping it and just adding the EFI to it
my rebuilt motor is a 22R out of an 85 late 83+ cyl heads will work but early- wont work so my 85 cyl head should work perfect I got a complete truck never been touched so I stripped everything complete EFI intake, complete wire harness (cab/engine bay), everything attached to the wire harness (alt, computer, fuse box,ect...), gas tank (w/fuel pump/fuel lines), and still debating on taking the cam... I found a few write up on ppl that have done this and then the faq on pirate

why not for your 3in of lift. through your rears in the front and move back the shackle not the front mount, then you can put your front axle wherever you want and then put the 63's in the back. 3in of lift front and rear depending on your shackle length

I dont want lift I have debated on running RUF ussing the 2 main leafs and the last 2 leafs from the stock front springs and a 4.5" shackle to keep it low (maybe 1" lift) and run 51" 3rd gen rears from a 89-95 pickup 4wd in the rear (just to keep it all toyota) and keep the truck low but still inprove suspension travel if I do lift I would do RUF and reversed F150s but for now stock works just fine I can still go any where built rigs can

really the only reason i'd recommend lift is you're going to hit your drag link on your oil pan. i even do sometimes and i only have like 3 maybe 4 in of uptravel up front.

I had problems in the past with the tie rod hitting the oil pan thats why I went back to stock but with the new set up it keeps the tie rod in the stock location and the drag link above (like highsteer) but after looking at my truck I think I will lift it maybe 2" and extend the bump stops to keep the tie rod away from the oil pan also will be moving the axle forward 1" so that will help with clearence. I recently added an 86 IFS rear and 1" wheel spacers up front and with 33s it just doesnt look right so lift may be in order to look proper

ya i ran mine for a while at stock height on 35's... just wasn't right. but even lifting it 3.5 in, it doesn't feel tippy at all. not a single time wether i was rockcrawling or going 45 in the dunes.

got any pics of stock on 35s and what it looks like lifted?

Im starting to get more interested in lifting it but only to clear high steer other than that I want to keep it low cuz it is my work truck and climbing in and out of lifted trucks is a pain... also Im limited on funds my wife and I are expecting our first baby within a week or two (YAY) now so got to be prepared and save as much money as possible I want to use my rears up front and do a 3rd gen rear spring but its just a matter of getting the 3rd gen rear springs and replacing the bushings to fit the 18mm spring mounts/shackle

see that's what i like about the chevy 63's, they are a half ton spring so they'll carry more then stock toyota, they'll give you some lift and they'll flex better,

Im not to sure about 63" chevies I want to be able to keep my stock mounts and 63" chevies would interfer with my rear reciever it barely clears my stock springs but 51" 3rd gen rears all I would need to do is clearence my reciever and add a longer shackle Im still in planning I might change my mind and if I can get the $$ I would just spend it on some 3" TG springs

It's because the 86 MC IS bigger. That's why us SA guys use the IFS MC when we go to FJ rotors and all that.

so looking to do some more mods finally finished my IFS rear axle swap and front 1" wheel spacers but now I am looking more into high steer... but still a ways away I am debating on adding a drop fron hanger and a 4.5/5" shackle on the front to gain a lil more up travel and still keep the pinion angle proper and then a 5" rear shackle to level the truck out but thats all on hold till I can locate a welder to do it with I dont think my 90 amp mig could do it properly and maybe a hand to get it finished (hint hint wink wink nudge nudge)

been worknig on the idea of bobing my bed. but not to sure how hard it is do. I dont need all the space in my bed so I want to shorten it about 12" or even make it as lon as it is wide... I want to keep all my bed hooks on the sides and keep all the body lines and the rear marker light...
I also want to build a bed rack that goes up cab height andhas a rack up top to carry extra but is removeable and cover it with canvas to make a soft top with roll up sides

here is a pick how I want to do it (had fun in photoshop)
