ok so the 235/75/15s I have been running sat for some time til I decided to use them they were just rollers and still have good tread but I guess due to sitting they are cracking and one has a tear starting so gonna be buying tires sooner than planned... what are your opinions

going to use my stock wheels 15x6 and want to try to stay with a 31x10.5x15 or a 33x9.50x15

It'll take you a few hours to swap 3rds.
you'll also have to bleed brakes, and buy 6 quarts of diff lube lol

specs so far:
87 22R
weber carb
custom 2" exhaust
L45 4speed
single case w/2.28:1
4.38 4cyl 3rds
welded front & rear
home made 2" rear leaves + shackle
33x10.50x15 BFG ATs
15x6 stock white steelies
rears up front
11" travel front shocks
boomerang shackle
IFS box
highsteer
V6 IFS rear axle
1" wheel spacers
gem top topper

future plans:
go back to stock
stock suspension
stock steering
4.56 V6 3rds
front bumper
rear bumper (possibly w/tire swing)
front shocks
rear shocks
rebuild motor
swap in a 5 speed

my RUF, highsteer, and IFS rear axle/wheel spacers are going in my 4runner its already abused so figured rather use it more than trash another truck and my 81 is my pride and joy I love it to much to trash it and the 4runner is just a project play toy anyways so why not

if/when you doing a rear swing out spare tire bumper--make it double shear (two point of support at the hinge)
the majority of the kits out there are a trailer stub axle. found out after having mine done that they can break at the wrong time--like on the highway..mine has not failed but am running 3/8" cable as a back up...insurance is high enough as it is...

I actually have a tire carrier off a 4runner I was going to modify to fit a bumper since the bed is to flimsy to hold the weight

so my headgasket problem seems to be getting worse and Im gonna be needig a new motor by summer for sure Id like to reuse my engine and just rebuild it but because this is my second head gasket on this motor not sure how good of condition the head is in and I know for fact the block needs major works since last time I was in there one of the rear head bolts threads were half way stripped in the in the block... Ive been looking into my options and so far I am really liking what LCE has to offer as far as performance and produst...what are my options for buying/building a 22R with more power... Im on a budget and cant spend to much and also cant afford any long period time down this truck is my DD and need it to get to work so Im looking at getting ether a reman long block or a built short block and ether reusing my head if it is still good or a mildly built head ether way Im looking to spend between $2-3K

also been looking into possibly a 4.3 chevy swap or buick 3.8 but cant really afford that much time down

You might want to think about a Mercedes Diesel! The OM617: The early 80's 2L 5cld seems to fit in the pickup great. I have not seen it done, but there is a lot of talk on the internet about it. You just have to add about a 1/4" plate between the motor and TC. There are a few people who have started to do such things. I will look for a link to the guys page, but there is a guy in the states that will make the 1/4" plate and engine mounts for about $800.

This one looks great: http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showth...z-OM617-diesel

Also, if you want more power, everyone loves the Cummins motors. There is a wealth of info about putting these things in early Toyotas!

Nice truck!

Your truck looks bad arse. I really like the plain jane look, stock wheels and all. I've been trying to get a set of those for a while, I have 2 but cant seem to find any more. Its kinda odd that they are hard to find.

My buddy just got a $300 1983 yota with a dead motor and we are seriously considering the OM617. They are supposedly great for bio-fuel. The guy who makes the conversion kit has just lowered the price. I feel like you might be able to do the whole thing under $3000. You do have to lift it a little and maybe put an x-member. Also, if it's your DD you might be walking for a substantial time...

ok so I got a 84 22R that Im gonna rebuild and swap in along with a G52 transmission to replace my sloppy/dying L45 and slso be able to use my stock top shift case to do duals later if I decide...

I here different things about the 84 22R most places say its the same engine/block 81-84 and then 85-95 is different but then some ppl say that its 81-83 and 85-95 and the 84 is the odd engine... is this true or is the 84 the same as 81-83
