I ran for 2 years on a skyjacker 3in front lift spring and my stock steering. Doesn't move axle and you get good flex. usually can find them on CL for around $50. Rears A lot of ppl like the chevy 54in that would bolt up directly or can go with 63's an move your mounts. This is my rig year ago on chevy 63's and skyjacker front on 33's. Cleared them easily. Welcome to the board great to see more Oregon ppl.

These also aren't fully flexed

food for thought. Dont need to waste money on hi steer and ifs box right away.
Wheeled this up at TFS and did upper crusher, can opener, and all the medium rated trails with no problems

I was kinda thinking that about the steering. seems like a pretty good plan to me.

So i started tearing into the front axle today and ran into a few problems. Got the hub off yada yada. but there is a 54mm nut in the way and i just dont have something that size. lol

am i doing this right? is there an easier way to get the shafts out of the 3rd member on the front axle?

and as promised some pics of the tires

ok best way ever to get out your front shafts. take off the outer c-clip, then undo your steering arms and the lower trunnion cap thing, then take off your rock ring and leave the felts and every on the knuckle ball then your entire knuckle just comes off and you can slide out your shafts

So basically go as far as i did taking the hub out and then remove the steering arms, the rock ring and the four bolt thing on the very bottom on the knuckle ball? Then that whole unit will just come off?

you wouldnt happen to have know where a write up of this would be?

Ill be starting work on this again tomorrow probly around 5 when i get off work. Anything you guys can tell me you think would help is greatly appreciated. I cant seem to find alot of into on the front axle. Id love to do a write up when i do it tomorrow to get that info readily available, but i need help to get there lol.

thanks again everybody

yup, the last thing you have to mess with in the hub is that c-clip, the rest just comes of as the unit. it's kinda heavy so don't be in an awkward position.
idk if anybody has done one, search pirate maybe.

no problem, one of my buds told me that when i tore my front end apart so it's only fair to pass it on. should only take like an 30 min to an hour to get them off, the hard part it putting the knuckle back on lol.

Nice rig buddy. Here is/was my 81 pickup. Had to sell it when our first child decided for me that a car seat will not fit on a bench seat, couldn't change into 2nd or 4th gears. I sure to miss her!

Ugh.. its three in the morning. Almost done with the front axle. Trying to find the drive to finish up tonight. Lol

This has been too long of a day...

Well since this axle hasnt been opened since 81 ive been cleaning the hell out of it. The proper way to do this is with brake cleaner right? hope so. if not how?

anything anybody think i should know before i put it all back together. ive got new grease for it and 80w140 oil for the diff.

Front is all finished up.

Should have the rear back together with the swampers on in the next hour or so

And sorry but i was not able to get enough pictures for a writeup on the front. My camera guy (my brother) passed out and my hands were way to dirty to be touching the camera. Lol

Edit: Oh yeah. Those are 36x12.5 tires on a 15 inch rim. Absolutely no lift, no wheel spacers, No fender modification, and saggy front suspension. Lol i was actually surprised they fit that well

Yeah dude forsure. ill go out to my shop tomorrow and check and see what mine is. im too damn tired to walk out there tonight lol sorry.

As for the rest of you... i have more questions.
The tires wobble like hell after 40mph. think i just need a balance/alignment? or could this be an issue of stock steering?
