Picked her up in Montana for $900, not exactly dirt cheap but not too bad. New dual row timing set and rebuilt transfer case. Underside is clean except for leaking front axle seals and a pretty good leak from the steering box. Pretty rough around the edges but I really dig her. Made the 6 hour drive from Montana with ease and made a couple mountain passes along the way. Surface rust on the frame and body but solid. It's gonna need a clutch soon too.
Got to figure out if I want to try and prep and paint the frame and do it right , but may just leave her alone and drive her and fix things as I have time. Anyways just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. This is my first first gen, what a truck.
Looks pretty solid, that's hard to find anymore. $900.00 isn't bad at all, especially since it made the trip home on it's own. Do you have a tailgate? 82 is the first year for the center handle, 81 and earlier won't work unless you modify the latches. Interesting bumpers. I think I'd drive it for a few months before I did any major work to it, Fix what needs to be fixed to drive it, then start cleaning it up. Maybe power wash it so you don't get to dirty changing the clutch, and whatever else you need to do.

No tailgate unfortunately - its definitely driveable right now, just want to check all the fluids, and then maybe replace the shocks and see whats going on with the steering box.
Just checked and filled the diffs - front was low , prob because the axle seals , back looked like chocolate milk, no good. Anyways threw some new oil in there so hopefully they are good to go. Didn't quite reach the fill hole on the two fills from a gallon container, but close enough I think - prob will top off later
Thats an amazing deal! Something like that in Washington would be somewhere around $2,500. Steering box is a normal thing, try to tighten the connections. Frame rust is on all the toyota's. The front axle is an easy rebuild. Sweet truck man!
