1999 4Runner Front Axle Boot Slip

Hello all

I recently installed a 3" Toytec lift. It got late so I decided to install the Ft Diff Drop kit in the morning. I wanted to clean up a bit around the garage so i backed the truck down the drive and parked on the street. I believe that when I made the turn the boot slipped off and threw grease all over the place. My question is, number one, did I cause this by not installing the Ft Diff drop kit right away? And second, is it possible to get the boot back on there and re secure it with a new clamp or do I have to remove the axle completely to make the repair?

Thank you in advance!

TC

The diff drop very well might have prevented this. Those axles look very new are they OEM, perhaps the band just wasn't tightened properly or seated in the groove properly. Since you never drove it you should be able to keep it clean add some identical CV grease to it and install a new CV clamp a notch tighter than that one was.

Hard to say. I installed the diff drop at the same time that I did the toytec 3", and I tore through my boots within days. Might have been just tight enough to stay seated with the old CV angle, but the variance in angle may have been enough to pop them off rather than tearing them.

I have read that the sweet spot is about 2.5" of lift otherwise one would begin to face tearing the boots. Rukus was that the only one that you have torn?

Yes indeed.

(when did typing the word "yes" become unacceptable to the internet gods? 5 character minimum?)
