You can modify an IFS shaft for more travel:
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/cvmod/
Likely your '80 will have the smaller bolts and different flange bolt pattern, so if you don't want to mess with changing that around, stick with something of the same vintage as your truck. Try http://www.car-part.com/ or check with a local driveline shop and see if your's can be rebuilt or fix whatever is wrong with yours. Or make a square tube shaft with a pair of u-joints if you need something cheap:

Not yet. I just made it a couple weeks ago. I need to get the pics I took of it on my computer.
Im wondering how much grease fittings are gonna help. I would think as tight as it is the grease isnt going to go very far and the inner shaft goes all the way up the outer except for about 2". I know id have to at least put 4 zerks but im thinking that wont be enough. And the shaft has a groove cut into it all along one side to allow for the weld seam of the outer shaft.
How many and where are the ones you're talking about?

yea i have thought about a square shaft...but..im not exactly sure on how to make one...and how long to make it..if someone could give me the specs on one for a STOCK 1st gen pickup without the swaybar...then i will just do that...seems to be the better route anyway
P.S. wont that thing vibrate like som b!tch while im in 4wheel drive and muddin
...i mean..we like to throw mud everywhere...i just dont want it to vibrate things loose...
