okay so i have a franken yota....the body is an 82, the frame an 85 or newer (IFS) and im trying to figure out what year the motor is, anybody have any insight on how to do this? its carbed so im thinking Pre-84

 

They made carbed motors till 89 I belive but look at the valve cover to start if its straight it should be post 85 I'd its slanted towards the fire wall itshould bepre 85 check that then you can further narrow it down
The carb should have a date of mfg on it I believe but if its a Franken truck its probably beem changed

It would be an '86 or newer frame for ifs. and carbed motors were standard into the late 80's

 

81-87.5 carbs have a round electrical plug on them and 87.6-90 have a square plug so that might help you narrow down the date too

 

Fergot to mention the carbs date code is right above the float window thing it should be somthing like 0A00
