First gen not charging...

My 1980 Toyota pickup is not charging. Altrenator and voltage regulator are working and getting/sending power. Still not charging. I was thinking a short somewhere? Where do I start? Also was thinking the relay but cannot find it anywhere... Or a fuseable link, can't find one of those either....

I had a heck of a time figuring out charging issues. I had to get wiring schematic and trace everything back from Battery. Is this something that has just presented itself?

one thing to keep in mind is there are 2 different voltage regulators, and alternators for your truck. you will have to count pins in the green harness that comes out of voltage regulator. the wires that go to my alternator (mines an 80 as well) did not match what I had in my 1980 TSRM (shop manual)

count pins coming out of voltage regulator and let me know. they are in a green clam shell looking plug.

I'll try to help.

fusible link is one of the green plugs at battery. it doesn't look like your typical link but it is one of those big green plugs.

do you have center gauge console?

if so then the voltmeter has 2 fuses at battery in little rectangular box. it has 2 glass 15 amp fuses inside. (black wire and white wire there is a plug near battery)

charging wire at battery is white (Heavier gauge) going into fuse link on my truck.

I believe there is another relay on passenger side. high on kick panel wall beside glovebox, for red dummy light. I have read it can cause problems but have not experienced any issues with mine.

Yeah I have the volt gauge, the factory one and I'll look for the fuses for that but didn't notice any the other day.... and ill count pins pretty sure it's 6! And all my green plugs are just plugs... One comes from the harness to battery and one comes from oil pressure gauge and the other sender by the starter?

Got a volt-meter?
How exactly do you know it's not charging?
Gauge says it's not charging? I would not trust the stock gauge.
Battery is drained?
Voltage at regulator output low? Regulator output is that thick wire that runs back to the fuse block and eventually to the battery via Fusible Link. (range should be around 13.5V to 15.1V depending on temp)
