smog

let me start out by saying i apologize for high jacking this thread. I am brand new on Yotatech and they wont let me start my own thread untill I post 15 times on someone elses thread. I have a 95 runner 3.0 and it wont produce enough power to pass the smog test, when it is timed correctly. I currently keep it timed 7 degrees advanced and it runs great. I was thinking maybe the timing belt was worn, any suggestions. Again I apologize for the high jacking

smog

so i keep it at 17 degrees (7 degrees past) and yes at 10 degrees it dosent have enough power to keep the tires rolling at 15mph needed for the smog test. The tech gives it alot of gas to get it going then brings it down to 15mph and it dies

recently rebuilt carb. replaced almost all the vacuum lines. was running premium fuel, recent oil change and spark plugs.
any ideas what to check or change to make this thing pass? im open to all ideas

thanks!
Your idle circuit is flooding out. Once you open up the throttle the idle circuit is likely still flooding but it contributes little to volume of air now going through. I would check the float level height for correctness.

bump cat....I always have two stock cats because they come out super easy, no weld. One for smogging and one for everyday driving.

smog

I run 41's on it, the smog tech says the tires have nothing to do with it. I questioned that myself

I had really high emissions and it was due to an exhaust leak ahead of the oxygen sensor. It was pulling in clean air and the O2 sensor thought it was running lean so it started dumping fuel.

How DO you change the timing? The only thing i can think of is physically moving the chain over a tooth.. Which would be way off. I did notice an adjustment on the distributor cap, as well as the fanned-slotted bracket that fixes the distributor to the block... But honestly I have little experience tuning a carburated motor.
