Hey guys I have an 81 pickup. Parking brake light on dash wont turn off when the hand brake is released. Wont pass inspection that way. I changed out the switch under the dash and no change, the light stays on. I pulled the dash out and could not get a test light to light on the back of the gauge cluster on the 2 same color wires coming off the switch! what gives!? Shouldnt it lite up cause the light is staying on? (i hope i dont have to buy a new gauge cluster, it looks old and worn out)
Please help, thanks!

I believe it is a ground switch, not power. Their is a tab on the P-brake rod that pushes on the switch, that makes it ground. You may need to test it with a continuity tester. You're testing for ground, not power...... if I'm right.

well that was a pita, new switch and dash out. ended up just being low on brake fluid! its always the simplest answer! didnt know that light also doubles as low brake fluid indicator.
