It will not work on an '84.5 or older 22r.

All I know is that they changed the deck height between the dual-row and single-row chain 22Rs... meaning that the head is slightly taller or shorter I believe depending on year. So pre-'85 models would be different from the '85-95, and the EFI system on 1985 models only is very slightly different from all other years.

Have a look at this thread:

You might be able to get an analog EFI setup to work with it, but I would probably say that it's more trouble than it's worth to try it with the TCCS digital EFI setup which you're obviously considering.

Not much is really truly impossible with these kinds of things, but in certain situations one has to do an awful lot of custom modifications and tweaks to make things work out. And even when things do work out in special cases, the vehicle won't always be quite right. Toyota knows Toyotas better than anybody else, hands down... Not to be cynical, just realistic.

Only '81, the first year for the 22r, had dual row t-chains. Deck/head height were changed somewhere in '84-'85, Along with the shape of the intake and exhaust ports.

I was searching for this answer to a question I had. I got a pacesetter header that I bought for my '86 before I sold it, now Ive got an '83. I take it my header wont fit my truck?

Haha, kinda what I was thinking Xxx. I tried to cheap out on my '87 Pathfinder with a Pacesetter header, the O2 sensor bung was way too far downstream, couldn't even get the connector to reach no matter what I did, and the flange was solidly against the floorboard, not just able to flex up there if conditions were just right.

If I were you 85triz, I'd return that hunk of crap to Napa and just save for a decent header and weather that isn't minus 20.

it also says they cant be used with an auto which they can. why dont you do some homework and go back to napa and look at the exhaust gaskets for both years and see for yourself. it will bolt on i put a thorley header from my 88 0n my 81 so get your warm gear on and turn some wrenches.

it will work from newer to older but not the other way around since the newer ones probably have a bung for emissions stuff if im not mistaken. if the gaskets have the same holes bolt it on and enjoy

I'd buy it.
Could probably sell it all on craigslist for more than what you paid.
Or do an EFI swap.
