I did this and threw a weber on there. Made a world of difference and simplified the engine bay a ton.

[QUOTE=live4soccer7;51681357]Timing probably isn't a part of it. I capped my fuel return line off. You could give that a shot. Get a piece of hose and put a bolt in the end to seal it (maybe a little permatex on the threads) and then tighten in on the return part of the pump.

fuel return being the white hose in this picture correct?

I capped mine at the fuel pump. There should be three at the pump. I'm not familiar with that(Aisin return fuel line, that's what it looks like), so I may suggest leaving that idea unless another user can comment on it. Sorry if I misled you on that one.

Another idea, did you plug the exhaust holes on top of the exhaust manifold after removing the EGR pipe? I would assume you'd have those as well. Take a look and let me know.

i cut the plates from the exhaust holes and welded the pipes closed, ground them flat permatex and bolted them back on the exhaust manifold. holes plugged.

can you tell which is the fuel return on my pump in the picture there?

You should be able to take a look at where the lines go and tell. If not, there is a photo in the FSM that shows. I can't remember off the top of my head.

I'm not familiar with the A/C setup in the 1st gen trucks, but couldn't you get away with a shorter belt (assuming the A/C is on the same belt/pulley as the Air Pump) that goes directly from the crank to the A/C compressor?

I did this all the time when I worked for Autozone. I'd have people measure the length and I'd look up the original part number for the belt, and knowing our part number system and how that related to the length, I was able to source custom length belts for custom applications.

Go talk to your parts stores if this would work for you. Will save you a ton of work trying to build or source an idler pulley not to mention one less part to fail in the future..

well, you can't just stretch a belt over the pulleys if there's no way to adjust the tension.

Well that makes sense.. I thought maybe the A/C compressor had adjustment. But like I said I don't know the setup. Was worth a shot

okayyyy, back again. i have my carb off, the engine bay gutted. everything is cleaned out except for the air injection lines.

one thing I didnt notice in this thread is any mention of the water line that comes into the carb and down into the intake manifold. is this a 20R thing? forgive me if I'm missing something obvious here. I like how the engine bay is cleaning up with all this crap out of here [my truck is a calif truck].

also, in the name of cleanliness, what about deleting all these thermo valves in the intake that are no longer needed?

LC Engineering has a plug "kit" that they sell and it's pretty inexpensive. It's just a pieced together kit of all the right size plugs in one package so you don't have to go through the trouble of finding each size.. If memory serves me right, it's in the Carb. section of their website.

Dude, Pumpkin this is great. I cant wait to get started on this. You obviously took alot of time to compile this. After some jaw-jackin on the street over coffee, it appears that this is profoundly UN-charted territory. Thanks for this epic thread. Subscribed.

Why'd you cap the adv? I'm curious to know the mpg you are getting. I wouldn't think the engine would be able to be too efficient with the adv plugged all the time.
