bent tranny tunnel.

okay so pulled up some of the carpet the other day. i found out the trans tunnel is bent all too hell. i have tried to bend it back but without removing the trans i just cant seem to get at it. so my question is do i really need to fix this? As far as i can tell nothing is supported by this part of the truck.
also when i do get around to pulling and rebuilding the trans what do you think would be a good way to fix it? hammer and welder would be my guess. there is a tare in the metal between the two holes. the hole on the right is one someone drilled. the original hole is a little up and too the right of that one. its hard too see. just looks like some dirt or something almost touching it.

Clean off the 30, years of road grime.
Pull up that rubber gasket on the t/c lever.
Under that you will see a big retaining ring.
Pop that out by squeezing it together with some needle nose pliers.
Keep track, of it because they like to fly.
Lift out the lever. This should give you room to get a pair of vice grips or other pliers to bend your sheet metal back. Or pound lightly with the BFH your choice.
