Any tricks for restoring toyota badges?

I was to restore my toyota 4WD badges on the fenders and the toyota badge on the front grill, any tips for removing the chrome coating and stripping paint from plastic? I already let it sit 48h in concrete cleaner and it did nothing.

Thanks!

I used brake fluid to remove the Crome and black paint off the b pillar emblem on my 4Runner(they are clear plastic) You have to remove them and soak them in it. Then wash with soapy water.

So I let them soak overnight in brake fluid then I pulled out the pressure washer. I managed to get most of the paint off that is not original, but it didn't do anything to the chrome paint, that stuff seems tough, I want to completely strip them and paint them, not paint over half flaking chrome paint it won't look nice.

the chrome on plastic is a "process" .. best option if you want to start with a bare plastic piece is to mida blast it ..

soda blasting is the best option , but painting over soda is not recommended , so I thing walnut would be your best option

Thanks Corey I guess that could be the last option known to work, I did manage to get a bit more off with the pressure washer on the grill badge, but the ones on the fender the brake fluid isn't doing anything to it. Any luck with a paint stripper for abs plastic?

I'm probably not going to repaint them chrome.

I've let them sit in the sun in brake fluid all day and it seems like it's gonna work but it's gonna take many days and time with the pressure washer.

I'd be afraid of melting them in brake cleaner/cracking them with power washer. I can't see exactly what the problem is but you described peeling of the factory fake chrome. Why not wet sand them with a fine grade of sandpaper and spray them flat black? At a point if paint is determined to stay put it's a probably good base to paint over.

Hi nervo, first the chrome coating is very thick, so when it peels it really doesn't leave a smooth texture, and second that coating is tough as nails, at first I just wanted to sand but even with 220 sand paper dry it barely left a mark. After sanding for 15 minutes I gave it up as it barely scratched the chrome but the plastic though was definately sanding.

It's been really hot in the last couple of days and I've left my 3 badges in the brake fluid in the sun since sunday and so far it seems to be working, slowly but eventually I think all will peel off, I can definately say nothing has melted so far.
